Magellan Explorist GC Review

Reviews - Outdoors Tech

Explorist-009aOne of my favorite pastimes as a child was to go treasure hunting, and as a consequence to those activities, I buried a few treasures of my own.  I had a set of the old Planet Of The Ape dolls and thought it would be a great idea to bury them and dig them up later on or let someone else do it.  My plan didn't work too well since my cartography skills weren't up to snuff.  I wish I'd known about geocaching and the Magellan Explorist GC back then..those things are worth a lot of money now!

Brunton Solaris 6 Solar Charging Array

Reviews - Outdoors Tech

Yes, I am a geek.  Not a nerd, but a geek.  Being a geek is a good thing.  A geek is anyone who gets excited about and stays up to date on a particular field or a special type of product.  It could be anything--comic books, knives, survival kits, Barbie dolls, computer gear, or motorcycles.  As much as I am a fan of outdoors gear and the outdoors experience, I am also extremely into high-tech stuff from computers, internet technologies, hand-held devices, to building my own gear.  So, I get really excited when I'm able to write on a topic that brings both of those worlds together--such as today's topic on the Brunton Solaris 6 Solar Charging Array.  If you're the extreme sort that tackles the wilderness with just a knife and a water bottle, this might not be for you.  But, for those of us that like to carry just a little more gear and enjoy some modern conveniences (and perhaps necessities) out in the wilderness, The Solaris 6 just might be right up your alley.

Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx

Reviews - Outdoors Tech

I have a true love of gadgetry, especially where it's some type of multi-function device that allows usage on its own, but also transports your information to a home computer as well, or has some extended versatility in some other way.  That's what led me to my acquisition of the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx.  A primary example of what I'm talking about with regard to a multi-function device is my almost three year old Verizon Wireless XV6700 Windows Mobile Phone.  First, and foremost, it's a phone.  Then it's a phone that's really a computer with cool programs to listen to and watch media, manage your contacts, and host your personal calendar of appointments and events.  Beyond that, you can get a data plan and that's where it really gets interesting.  You can not only surf the internet, you can hook the phone up to your laptop and use it as a broadband modem sucking down EVDO packets at a very quick clip.  Pretty good so far, right?

Corsair 16GB Survivor USB Drive

Reviews - Outdoors Tech

Corsair SurvivorAs we get this website up and fully running, one of the things I will be talking about in some of my articles is about the integration of technology with the outdoors.  That technology may have to do with electronics and computer technology, or just the technology that goes into making products like different kinds of alloys, grip materials, or fabrics for packs and bags.  I'll admit I'm a pure gadget geek and my spectrum of interest runs from anything having to do with computers, photography equipment, flashlights, and also knives and guns---basically anything shiny!  That's where my review comes in on the Corsair 16GB Survivor USB Flash Drive.
