Future Essentials Canned Organic Green Costa Rican Monte Crisol Coffee Beans

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

No matter where I am; camping, home or at work, in the morning I need coffee. I am not a morning person and whether it's purely psychosomatic or a pure caffeine addiction, I cannot say. I really don't care. I love my coffee.

Stove in a Can Review

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

Emergency preparedness is something everyone should practice. Batteries, water, medications if needed, etc. but really it boils down to eating. Because even scared in the dark, you get hungry. So the power is out-no microwave. The gas lines are shut down-no stove. You can't get to your grill and the propane tank is most likely empty or blown away. So what do you do? What. Do. You. Do? Stove-in-a-can is what you do.

GSI Bugaboo Camper Cook Set

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

Although I'm not much of a back-pack/hiking girl, I do camp. I suppose you more rugged types would describe it as “glamping”-a term I only became aware of this week. (Glamping-glamorous camping. Though not “hotel camping”, it's basically camping with most of the niceties of indoors) Tents and showers and cooking food more involved than “hot-dog-on-stick” or MRE.

Mountain House Ice Cream

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

Sometimes the sweet tooth hits you no matter where you’re at. When you’re in the backwoods though you can’t exactly run out for an ice cream cone when it hits… or can you? Thanks to Mountain House you can get pretty close with their freeze dried Neapolitan Ice Cream Bar and Ice Cream Sandwich. Yep, that’s right, freeze dried ice cream, the same stuff that the astronauts took into orbit on the Apollo 7 mission back in 1968 and that you can find in the gift shops of science centers everywhere. There’s a certain novelty factor to the concept that makes it worth trying, but we wanted to see if it was actually any good too.

Ecoque Portable Grill Review

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

Ecoque-0030Ever see that commercial that says, "Don't be that guy."  Well, I'm not that guy.  You know the one.  The husband of the soccer mom who works at the office by day and moonlights as an amateur chef on the weekends.  He's the one that feeds the neighborhood with all the eats he prepares on his grill.  He spends umpteen hours perfecting his craft whether he works with charcoal or specialty woods like mesquite.  He's the one you want to camp next to in the hopes there might be some left overs at your next outdoors event.

GSI Glacier Stainless Dualist Cook Set

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

Do you remember the first time you went to the store as a youngster and picked up one of those $8.00 aluminum cook sets from your local major chain store and just couldn’t wait to go camping and try it out? I fondly remember that day and the camping trip that followed. While I was able to “cook” my meal as my father watched with a smile, the frying pan warped, the food stuck the pan and the cleanup was a nightmare. Now granted I was a kid at the time and learning as I went along, but from that point on I was turned off to what I call “cookie-cutter cookware.”

Klean Kanteen 64 ounce Wide Mouth and Reflect Stainless Bottles

Reviews - Stoves, Cookware & Utensils

Kleen Kanteen 64 oz Stainless BottleI go to lengths to be prepared for emergencies no matter where I go, but I also go to lengths to be comfortable.  About 90% of the time, I am well within a mile of a source of potable water, so a 27 or 32 ounce water bottle would be sufficient, but I still carry two quarts of water when I go into the woods for more than a few hours.  I like to be able to drink as much as I want and have some for tea or coffee if I take a notion to sit back and take in  the view or warm up a bit.  I go into the woods for pleasure mostly and don't like a nagging conscience reminding me to mind my water supply or worrying me about where I will get more.
