As some of you may know, our Executive Editor Tim was diagnosed with leukemia 13 years ago. Thanks to the advent of new technology and advances in medical research, Tim is still with us after being originally given only five years to live. Four years ago, he underwent a bone marrow transplant and is doing very well. At one time, the success rate was around 60%, and today it’s now above 80% with the advances made in medicine. This is the time of year where Tim and his family do a fundraising activity called "Light the Night Walk" for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society does a great job of helping out patients and their families while they’re going through transplant, as well as investing in research into cures as well. Last year Team Woods Monkey raised over $10,000 with awesome support from the outdoors industry and our readers through our Beer & Gear Raffle!

For 2012 we’re gearing up for the 2nd Annual Beer & Gear Raffle! Check back for details on how and when to enter but we’ll be updating our sponsors list here in the meantime!

If you’d like to get involved and donate a prize for the raffle, or make a financial contribution check out our LLS page below or drop us an e-mail!

Tickets for both raffles will be drawn at the Pittsburgh LLS Light the Night Walk on Thursday, October 4, 2012.
